ABOUT

Motoki Tanizawa "Moky"

In 1995, I moved to the United States and started my music career as a resident DJ at the now-defunct ‘Dharma’ in the Lower East Side of New York City.
Subsequently, I worked as a PA engineer at various venues including ‘IZZY BAR’, ‘Wetlands Preserve’, ‘CBGB’s’, ‘New Victory Theater’, and the ‘John F. Kennedy Center’. During my time at these venues, the 9/11 attacks occurred, leading to the closure of many of these places and subsequently the loss of my job. I then continued my career as a recording engineer in street HIPHOP.

In 2003, I returned to Japan and began my Tokyo career at the legendary underground space ‘Aoi Heya,’ owned by Masako Togawa. I launched live houses such as ‘Tsuki Miru Kimi Omou ( Moon Romantic ) ‘,  ‘Haretara Sora ni Mamemaite (Haremame) ‘,  and ‘Saravah Tokyo’.   Currently, I engage in live sound operations and recording works for various artists at festivals, hall tours, and overseas tours. As a freelance sound engineer, I continue to protect the super analog sound system at ‘Haremame’ while serving as a personal assistant to Makoto Kubota and as a chief researcher at SDLab, led by Seigen Ono.

Collaborated with : Terry Riley, Kazutoki Umezu, Chu Kousaka, Ryo Ishibashi, Hiroshi Mikami, Manami Kakudo, Vincent Gallo, Masako Togawa, Tamango’s Urban Tap, Juana Molina, Tony Allen, Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro, Toshiaki Chiku, Madoki Yamazaki, Ajate, Toshiyuki Terui, etc.

I cherish the resonance of spaces,
pursuing real sound with transparent engineering.
